It’s a thriving hub where city streets and prairie fields meet — and we think that’s worth exploring! This itinerary is packed with stops that connect you to the people, animals, and crops behind our local food story, all in and around Saskatchewan’s vibrant City of Bridges.
Prefer to let someone else do the driving? Hop on the guided bus tour departing from Saskatoon on August 9, 2025, but don’t wait too long, seats are filling up faster than a wheat bin at harvest!
Two Ways to Start Your Day:
Western Development Museum (Saskatoon) – Saskatoon’s galleries open at 9:00 am. Beat the rush by stopping in to learn everything from wheat grinding to chicken farming, and try your hand at milking “Bessie” the educational cow, plus so much more. Boomtown Cafe opens half an hour earlier to help you start your day with breakfast goodies. Inside Tip: Starting your day with a slice of Saskatoon Berry pie at the Boomtown Cafe is almost mandatory, Saskatoons in Saskatoon just hit a bit different!
Free Experience: Check out the Chicken Farmers of Saskatchewan chick display in the Education room on Saturday, 10am – 4 pm
Sixteen Grains will be flipping short stacks made with love from their signature pancake mix on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 am. Can you think of a better way to kick-start a day of learning where your food comes from? What to bring: Sixteen Grains is offering breakfast and lunch by cash only, please be sure to bring cash!

Time to Share the Love: If you thought YOU were hungry, imagine how those farm animals must feel by now!! Might we suggest the short jaunt over to Wander’s Tiny Farm to feed the pigs or bottle feed the calves? Inside Tip: A selfie or group shot in front of the giant teddy bear of hay bales is a must on any trip to Wander’s Tiny Farm. Don’t forget to tag them and @skopenfarmdays when you post it!

Dinner or Lunch? Whatever You Call It, Let’s Eat!
Growing up on my family farm, the noon meal was called dinner and the later meal was called supper. Let’s not get hung up on terms because there are plenty of stops to grab a farm fresh bite in Saskatoon.
SaskMade Marketplace has two locations in Saskatoon. Both offer a complete grocery-buying experience in the heart of the city. If you’re like me and love a snack on the road or a picnic lunch beside a blooming field, you’ll want to stop in ahead of time and get your hands on some of their grown and produced in Saskatchewan items. At Gather Local Market, you’ll find a locally-inspired food court, complete with beverage options. On Saturday, you’ll find an outdoor market with a variety of vendors, food trucks, and other activations in addition to their regular indoor offerings. Inside Tip: One of the two SaskMade locations is inside Gather Local Market. It really is a 2-for-1 stop!
Afternoon Stop Option 1: From hay to latte, how dairy farmers make it all happen

Nienhuis Family Farm prides itself on producing high-quality milk and strong animals. During your tour to the farm, you’ll be introduced to their herd and some of the techniques used on the farm.
Inside Tip: Nienhuis Family Farm is open only on Saturday and promises dairy treats during your tour. Need we say more?

The Rayner Dairy & Research Facility, located at the University of Saskatchewan offers a close up look at dairy farming methods, including milking practices, nutrition, animal health, and more.
Inside Tip: Please be sure to wear clean footwear that has not been worn while working on another farm.

Afternoon Stop Option 2: From Grain to Greatness — The Story of Wheat in Every Bite
Seager Wheeler’s story, as shared by the Seager Wheeler Farm National Historic Site near Rosthern, will give you a true appreciation for how far we’ve come in agricultural practices, while still remembering the lessons learned by agricultural pioneers like Mr. Wheeler.
Inside Tip: Can’t make it out during Saskatchewan Open Farm Days? Seager Wheeler Farm is open throughout the summer with various events and demonstrations planned.
We’re Ready to Sip Something Crafted in Saskatchewan, How About You?
The list of craft beer, wine, and spirits makers in Saskatchewan is lengthy and diverse! Here are some spots to grab a pint, cocktail, or zero-proof beverages in and around Saskatoon.

Crossmount Farm & Cidery is mere minutes away from Saskatoon, but when you arrive at their doorstep, you might think you have been transported even further away as the acres of apple trees roll on. Their artisanal cider is the real star of the show!
Inside Tip: Keep your driver well-hydrated too! The zero-proof pure apple juice and lemonade made at Crossmount are a sure way to make sure everyone gets home safe!

High-Key Brewing Co. is known for experimenting with local ingredients, pushing the boundaries, and bringing an unmatched creativity to their craft. We hope you love the urban feel of this agriculturally-connected brewery in the heart of Saskatoon’s downtown core.
Inside Tip: Make sure to time your visit to a brewery tour at 1pm, 3pm or 5pm for an insiders look of field to pint!

Lucky Bastard Distillers is turning prairie grain into award-winning spirits — and raising their glass to bold ideas and a little bit of luck! Not gonna lie, we love that the ingredients come from Saskatchewan whenever, and wherever possible!
