Saskatchewan Open Farm Days is a province-wide event where farms, food producers, and agri-tourism operators open their gates to the public for a weekend of discovery. In 2025, the event takes place August 9 & 10. It’s a perfect opportunity for farmers’ markets to get involved, connect with their community, and support local agriculture. Whether you’re looking to host vendors, promote your regular market, or collaborate with a local farm, here’s how your market can get involved.

Step 1: Get to Know Open Farm Days
Saskatchewan Open Farm Days is all about connecting the public with food, farming, and rural experiences. Markets that participate can:
- Host a special market pop-up on a participating farm.
- Invite local farms to do demos or tastings at your regular market.
- Open your market as a “hub” on the Open Farm Days map if you feature direct-from-farm products or agri-food experiences.
- Partner with nearby farms for cross-promotion and coordinated experiences.
Step 2: Choose How You’d Like to Participate
There are multiple formats that you can participate in Open Farm Days:
Standalone Host Location
Showcase your market and all it has to offer as a regular opportunity for consumers to connect to the farm by being promoted through the Open Farm Days platform.
Pop-Up Market at a Farm
Partner with a local farm to host a mini market or satellite market during Open Farm Days. Get your regular customers out to the countryside for the weekend.
Promotional Partner
Support the program by promoting participating farms, hosting a related event, or providing an info booth on local food. We have posters, social media posts and media releases available for you to share within your community.
Step 3: Register
Registration is open and closes May 31, 2025. You do not need to have all the details figured out to register, we just need your contact and a description of the market with some photos to include on our site for preliminary promotion. Register here: https://skopenfarmdays.ca/host-farms/host-registration/
Once you register, we will set up a follow up call to get into the details. You’ll need to provide:
- Any special events or experiences you plan to offer for the weekend (if applicable)
- List of vendors – as many as possible, this can be updated later on as well!
- Dates and times you’ll be open
- Accessibility, parking, and food info (if applicable)
Step 4: Plan Your Visitor Experience
Think about how to make your market engaging for visitors. Consider:
✅ Live music or entertainment
✅ Farm-themed kids’ activities
✅ Tastings and demos from your vendors
✅ Educational signage or farm tours (if on-farm)
✅ Collaborating with local tourism groups or artisans

Step 5: Promote Your Event
Once registered, your location will be included on the website, visitor platform and event directory. To leverage Open Farm Days to the most, you can:
📣 Share social media posts
📩 Send out email invites
📍 Use posters or flyers locally – we can send you posters and postcards!
🤝 Connect with local farms, businesses, and tourism organizations for cross-promotion
Marketing toolkits and media templates are available HERE to help you get the word out.
Step 6: Enjoy the Weekend!

Be ready to welcome visitors, answer questions about your vendors and products, and build new relationships with people interested in local food.
Don’t forget to take photos, gather feedback, and celebrate being part of this province-wide movement!
