What is Saskatchewan Open Farm Days?

Ever wonder what actually goes into growing the crops under our endless skies, or raising the livestock down the gravel road? Saskatchewan Open Farm Days is all about throwing open the farm gate and welcoming folks right on in for a firsthand look at the real story behind their food.

This province-wide event is hosted by Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan (FFCS). At FFCS, the belief is simple: getting to know your local farmers and ranchers is the best way to get to know your food. As a province-wide coalition, FFCS links thousands of livestock, crop, and horticulture producers together with government partners, local businesses, and individuals. Everyone involved shares one common goal: helping people understand the hard work, care, and dedication that goes into Saskatchewan food and farming. Hosted every August across the province, local farms and culinary and agriculture related businesses open up their doors to host guided tours, hands-on demonstrations, and family-friendly events. It’s a full weekend dedicated to giving you an authentic taste of Prairie agriculture

Whether you’re swinging by for the tractor rides, bringing the kids to meet the farm animals, sampling fresh local food, or simply enjoying a quiet day out in the countryside, there’s a little something for everyone. By welcoming you directly onto the land, we hope to build a bit more understanding, trust, and connection between our farm families and our local communities. We’re looking forward to sharing what we do out here, and why it matters so much to our province.

How to Experience Saskatchewan Open Farm Days
As we get closer to the annual August event, we’ll share all our host locations on the Visit a Farm page. From there, you can plan your weekend using two great options:

Regional Bus Tours: Sit back and enjoy a full-day, curated tour showcasing highlights across the region.

Self-Guided Road Trips: Build your own custom route and explore host locations at your own pace.

Before hitting the gravel for Open Farm Days, keep these quick tips in mind to ensure a smooth trip out to the country for visitors of all ages!

• Built for All Ages: From little ones seeing a tractor up close for the first time to grandparents reminiscing about the old days, every host location offers something special for the whole family.
• Dress for Dirt & Weather: Throw on sturdy, closed-toe shoes (skip the flip-flops!) and pack for Prairie weather with layers, sun hats, sunscreen, and bug spray.
• Leave Pets at Home: For the safety and biosecurity of livestock and farm animals, please leave your pets comfortably at home.
• Respect Farm Boundaries: Always stick to designated visitor areas, follow host instructions, and keep a close eye on young kids around machinery and livestock.
• Pack Cash & Prep Your Ride: Fill up your gas tank, bring plenty of water, and carry some cash. Cell service and card readers can be spotty on the backroads, and you won’t want to miss out on fresh farm-gate treats!
